Maine Public

PORTLAND — Maine Public visited the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine to learn about their new exhibit opening Monday, October 9 on Indigenous People’s Day.

In this video we meet Dwayne Tomah, director of the Sipayik Museum in Eastport, ME and a member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and we also meet Starr Kelly, the Director of Education and Exhibits at the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine in Portland.

The Children’s Museum has been working with Dwayne and other Wabanaki partners to fulfill a need to create a space for children and families to learn about the rich cultural and artistic Indigenous traditions of Maine’s landscape. This year, the result is a new exhibit called Ckuwaponahkiyik Atkuhkakonol: Wabanaki Storytelling Through Art and Traditions.
